If your website is a serious sales channel, the builder's low monthly price is usually a false economy. Here's the honest comparison.

Be fair to the builders — they're right for some. Choose Wix or Squarespace if you need something live today for free, your website isn't a real sales channel (say, a placeholder while you start out), and you enjoy doing it yourself. For a hobby, a pop-up or a temporary holding page, a DIY builder is perfectly sensible.
Choose a bespoke build if customers find and judge you online before they buy, if you want to rank on Google rather than pay for ads forever, and if your time is better spent running your business than wrestling a template. For a restaurant, a clinic or any service business where a single new customer is worth hundreds of pounds, a site that ranks and converts pays for itself quickly — and keeps paying, because you own it.
On a builder you're a tenant. Your site, your content and often your domain live on their platform under their rules and their pricing — which they change. Stop paying and it all disappears. A custom build hands you the keys: files, domain and content are yours to keep, move or hand to anyone. That single difference outlasts every monthly saving.
