Most veterinary web providers sell subscriptions, not websites. Here are the real 2026 figures, the five-year sum almost nobody does, and what actually drives the price of a practice site.

A veterinary website in the UK typically costs £490–£2,490 as a one-off build you own, or £650 upfront plus £70–£100 a month with the pay-monthly providers that dominate the veterinary market. The monthly route looks cheaper on day one and is far more expensive by year three — and at the end of it, the practice owns nothing.
Veterinary web design in the UK is unusual: most of the specialist providers sell subscriptions rather than websites. Typical shapes we see advertised:
| Route | Upfront | Ongoing | You own it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Specialist vet provider (subscription) | £0–£650 set-up | £70–£100/month | No |
| General UK agency | £2,500–£8,000 | Hosting only | Usually |
| Fixed-price studio (us) | £490–£2,490 | Optional £49/month care | Yes |
| DIY builder | £0 | £15–£30/month | No |
Take a practice paying £650 to set up and £80 a month. That's £650 + £4,800 = £5,450 over five years, and if the practice ever stops paying, the site goes with it — usually including the content and sometimes the domain. A £990 one-off multi-page build is £990 once, hosting aside, and it stays yours whatever happens next. The subscription model isn't a scam; it's just a rental agreement that most practices never price out to the end.

For most independent UK practices, £900–£1,800 as a one-off buys a multi-page site with a page per service and local SEO. Specialist veterinary providers typically charge £0–£650 to set up plus £70–£100 a month, which is cheaper in year one and considerably more expensive by year three — and you don't own the result.
They're convenient and spread the cost, which suits some practices. But price it to year five before signing: £650 set-up plus £80 a month is £5,450 over five years with nothing owned at the end. A one-off build of similar quality is a single payment that stays yours.
Because they need more pages that each target a real search — one per service, plus registration, emergency and species-specific content. That structure is exactly what lets an independent practice outrank corporate groups locally, so it's where the return is.
Locally, yes, and routinely. Corporate group websites are templated nationally, which makes them weak on town-level relevance. A well-structured local service page consistently beats them for searches like “cat dental treatment in [town]”.
