How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

No vague “it depends” — real 2026 figures for every route, what actually moves the price, and the monthly trap that costs owners the most over five years.

By Yuri Zanolla, founder — Zanolla Studio · Updated 29 July 2026

A small business website in the UK costs £490–£2,490 as a one-off build with a studio, or roughly £10–£30 a month, forever, with a DIY builder. Traditional agencies charge £2,000–£10,000+. Which number is right for you comes down to three things: how many pages you need, whether local SEO is included, and — the part most owners miss — whether you actually own the site at the end.

What actually changes the price

The hidden cost nobody quotes: the monthly trap

A £15/month builder looks far cheaper than a £990 site — until you do the maths. Five years at £15/month is £900, and at the end you own nothing: stop paying and the site disappears, domain and all. A one-off build is yours for good, and typically pays for itself with a handful of new customers. Cheap-by-the-month is usually the most expensive way to end up with nothing.

So what should you actually pay?

For most UK independents — a restaurant, a private clinic, a trades or service business — the sweet spot is a fixed-price, multi-page site with local SEO, around £900–£1,500. Below that you're usually buying a template without the SEO that makes it findable; well above it you're paying for an agency's office and account managers. At Zanolla Studio the bands are £490 (one page), £990 (multi-page with local SEO) and £2,490 (30-page premium build) — all one-off, all yours, delivered in 7–10 days by email.

Common questions

What is the cheapest way to get a professional small business website?

A fixed-price studio build. It costs more up front than a DIY subscription, but you own it outright, it's built to rank on Google, and it doesn't eat weeks of your evenings. Most owners recover the cost with a few new customers. Zanolla Studio starts at £490 one-off.

Is a £15/month website builder cheaper than a one-off build?

Only in month one. Five years of £15/month is about £900, and you own nothing at the end — stop paying and the site is gone. A one-off build of similar quality is yours permanently, so over any real timeframe it's cheaper.

Why do UK web design prices vary so much?

Because “a website” ranges from a single template page to a 30-page site built to rank, with copywriting and local SEO. Page count, whether SEO is included, and whether you own the result are the main drivers. Always ask what's included and who owns it.

Are there ongoing costs after the site is built?

Only domain renewal (about £10–£15/year) and hosting. Many studios include hosting setup; an optional care plan (ours is £49/month, cancel any time) covers updates, backups and security if you'd rather not touch it yourself.
